"The Fusion Series"

from

The Visualist

In the Fusion Series Len Steckler utilizes computer technology
to creatively combine elements of his work from different periods in his life.

The result of this process is the fusing of images that span decades, into a new and exciting artistic expression
whose whole transcends time while retaining the integrity of its parts.

In an almost full-circle of his life's work,
Len Steckler has resurrected photographs from the 60's and combined them with recent drawings and paintings,
to create ..........The Fusion Series.

"Plaque"
24" x 27"

Photograph: circa 1962,
Painting: circa 1997,
Fusion: 2004.

The photograph was taken in St Thomas. She was in a dream-state while looking out onto the harbor, as the sun was setting. The background fragment is from a painting in the "Media" series, and I love the juxtaposition of the girl's ethereal quality fused with the gold and earth tones.

Artes print, $5000.

"Victorian"
27" x 24"

Photograph: circa 1963,
Painting: circa: 1997,
Fusion: 2003.

This model seemed to lose all of her inhibitions as she stood there, naked to the world. She relaxes, and finds her way into her own reverie.
The fragment of background is from the "MRI" series of paintings, and I enjoyed the cool, vibrant color scheme against her skin.

Artes print, $5000.

"Purple Yellow Streaks"
27" x 24"

Photograph: circa 1969,
Painting: circa: 1997,
Fusion: 2003.

In this piece, I have emphasized the primary colors as a kind of breeze over the beauty of this tranquil woman. She contemplates love in her trance-like state.

Artes print, $5000.

"Hands Back"
27" x 24"

Photograph: circa 1963,
Painting: circa: 1995,
Fusion: 2003.

I am teasing the viewer with this whimsical scene of a woman being caressed by 'hands'. She tries not to show her pleasure, but in spite of her efforts, she is gratified. The background is fused from a piece of a "Forgotten Gods" series painting.

Artes print, $5000.

"Audrey"
27" x 24"

Photograph: circa 1964,
Painting: circa 1995,
Fusion: 2003.

The photograph is very much like a Degas. Audrey is feeling ecstasy and Total freedom. She is alone, and the observer seems to be looking in on a Private moment. The background is fused from a "Media" painting.

Artes Print, $5000.

"Fusion/Chair"
27" x 24"

Photograph: circa 1964,
Drawing: circa 2001,
Fusion: 2004.

The photograph is of a woman leaning back on a chair, daydreaming. It is fused with a very primitive and dark drawing of a chair, so the end result is dreamlike in nature, and extremely haunting.

Artes print, $5000.

"Horizontal 4 Fig"
27" x 24"
Photograph: circa 1965,
Drawing: circa 1959,
Fusion: 2003.

This piece is a combination of a nude photograph
fused with a four-figure drawing from my art student
days at the Art Student's League in New York.
The result becomes a cacophony of bodies
incorporated into one mass.

Artes print, $5000.

"Wendy"
24" x 27"

Photograph: circa 1965,
Painting: circa 1998,
Fusion: 2004.

Wendy is photographed within diaphanous fabric symbolizing the placenta that holds a baby. The photograph is fused with a portion of a larger painting from the "Media" series. Its bold strokes and muted colors signify the outer world and the difficulties of real life.

Artes Print, $5000.

"Marie"
24" x 27"

Photograph: circa 1969,
Drawing: circa 2002,
Fusion: 2004.

Maria seems to be looking at her surroundings, trying to understand the world around her. I have created this fusion of a woman's tranquil moment, with a fragment from an active and feverish "Media" series painting. The rapid pace we live in, and the constant movement of our culture, is juxtaposed with the oneness of an individual.

Artes Print, $5000.

"Amy/Caul"
27" x 24"
Photograph: circa 1993,
Photographs: circa 2003,
Fusion: 2004.

I fused a photograph of Amy in a Caul
(fabric representing the womb)
along with nude and flower photographs.
This piece tries to depict the beauty and secrecy of Woman;
she is ethereal, spiritual, and nurturing.

Artes print, $5000.
