MEDIA

For over three decades, Len Steckler was an integral part of modern media. From magazine Illustrator, to still Photographer, to Cinematographer, to motion picture Producer, Len Steckler has always been the creative ingredient in the formation of visual ideas and messages.

Who is better equipped to examine the effect of the bombardment of media on society than Len Steckler?

"In my Media series I examine the effect of media saturation on the human spirit. Art must be the Voice of Truth and Beauty, and it is from this vantage point that I view my work. Media saturation has caused chaos and confusion, but the human spirit will never be denied."

In his Media works, Mr. Steckler shows us how beauty, organization, and sometimes even heightened passion can emerge from the chaos.

"On Red"
Mixed Media on Canvas
Framed 19" x 19"

This painting is all about MOVEMENT. It symbolizes the chaos that collides with our existence all of the time. "Stop", "Go", "Move", Rest"; it never ceases.

Original, $10,000.

"Media B of A"
Mixed Media on Canvas
8' x 8'

Economic figures, bank statements, media spin, money, money, money! Our society is obsessed with false values.
We do not seem to see Truth. Our children learn from mixed messages and do not have a real understanding of the human spirit.

Original $50,000
(In the collection of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Marcus)

"Media Total"
Mixed Media on tile
30" x 20"

This piece depicts the many edicts we are subliminally subjugated to.
"Buy This," "Wear this,"
"Look like this,"
"Smell like this"! Confronting the Viewer, I try to say please!

Take the time to figure it out for yourself.

Artes print, $5000

"Black Dot"
Mixed Media
54" x 54"

This piece is one of the earliest in my MEDIA series, and is an example of my pronouncements,
vis-à-vis seeking
truth in society. We need to be wary of the chaos we live in. We need to seek the simple integrity of God's expression and we should begin to smile at the beauty that is life.

Original, $40,000.

"Shrimp/Arab Media"
Mixed Media on Canvas
20" x 16"

I use my old photograph of 60's supermodel, Jean Shrimpton,
as a cultural icon today, combined with a Middle Eastern man.
I am trying to show that he will resort to the extreme of "ethnic cleansing,"
to battle against our society of "non-believers".
We swear by super-models, super-thin, super-big, and super-rich.
We are in a culture war.

Artes print, $5000.

"X Factor"
Mixed Media on Canvas
36" x 24"

The "Me" of our celebrity society.
We love the gossip! We want to know everything about famous people. What makes them celebrated?
It is the "X" factor.
That certain something that most of us do not possess.
We Media descriptions......
envy their lives because ours are ordinary.
We extol their looks, their clothes, their money.

Artes print, $5000.

"Pat"
Mixed Media on Canvas
20" x 20"

The faces of 60's fashion model Pat McGuire
and a contemporary beauty, bid us to "SEE".
We are bombarded with images and vanities all around us,
and we subjugate our own truth to the ones that
the Media tells us is absolute excellence.

Artes print, $5000.

"Living in Fear"
Mixed Media on Paper
30" x 20"

What would Christ think if he could walk on earth in the society of the 21st century?

I try to depict his pain and disappointment.
We need to think, we need to see, we need to reassess.
Why are we living in fear?

Artes print, $5000.

"Pop"
Mixed Media on Canvas
30" x 20"

Look at life.
See the beauty.
I incorporate a Grecian statue to exemplify the ideal of beauty through the ages. It is so simple. Just look beyond the hype and the hoax. I want my viewer to have confidence in the truths that are still valid.
"Beauty is truth,
truth is beauty."

Artes print, $5000.

"Wynona"
Mixed Media on Canvas
48" x 36"

The sights and sounds we are exposed to every day in our society, cause difficulty in discerning right from wrong. How do we make the right choices? Do we steal, do we lie, do we cheat? Is it worth it to get ahead? Do we do these things because we can? These are the questions that confuse people.

Artes print, $5000.

"Pope"
Mixed Media on Tile
12" x 12"

In a society of drugs, sex, and greed, the reality-check of religion is a helpful rule to live by. The Pope personifies much that is good. However, the Church is big business and can be ruthless, as well.
Our culture is filled with similar contradictions, which makes it difficult for us to find our way.

Original $15,000
Artes print, $5000.

"Beauty Repeated"
Mixed Media on Canvas
24" x 24"

We are constantly being told what is beautiful, how thin to be, how to dress, what to buy, and what to like. These dictums thrown at us by a non-stop media barrage are creating a society of "wannabes" and "look-a-likes". What has happened to individuality? Do we long to break free of these decrees and make our own guidelines? It will take inner understanding of the human spirit.

Artes print, $5000.
